The Chinese coast guard has blocked Filipino fishermen again from entering Scarborough Shoal, GMA News’ Jiggy Manicad reported on “State of the Nation with Jessica Soho.”.
The fishermen on board four fishing vessels said the Coast Guard vessels closed in on them and that they also heard horn signals. They added that the Chinese personnel also cut loose the anchor of their boats.
One of the captains in the area also confirmed that there is a growing presence of Chinese vessels at Bajo de Masinloc (another name for Panatag/Scarborough Shoal).
This is despite Malacañang’s statement that fishermen can “test the waters” in the disputed area, after Chinese Ambassador Zhao Jianhua hinted that they are open to discuss the matter.
This advice came after the National Heroes Day ceremonies at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, where President Rodrigo Duterte address Jianhua, asking the Chinese to treat Filipinos as their brothers.
